We have a large plate glass window in the front of our home. Although I love the light and view from the window, some of the small birds nesting around the house have made the fatal mistake of flying into the glass. I am searching for ways to prevent future bird fatalities, because it truly bothers me that these beautiful creatures are taken away. I can’t help myself though. When I find them in the driveway, I have to pick them up and study them. They are tiny and delicate and I’m drawn to them… wanting to study their feathers and leathery feet… the delicate layers of their wings.
Farewell little bird. Fly away home.
I can’t get over how fast things grow here. There is so much to do inside the house, but, this morning the air temp. was cool, so, I thought, “Heck with it. Outside I go.” There was much pulling of overgrown grass and cutting back of vines and new growth that is trying to garden crash as I call it. I collected two baby spider plants that were just poking through the fence from the neighbor’s house. Strange how I’ve always thought of them as house plants. They found a place on my window sill in a cup of water. Let’s see how fast they sprout new roots with the increase of TLC.

Kumquats, baby grapefruit and peaches. Lots of the first two, only about a dozen of the fuzzy beauties.

I’ve been wanting to stop and photograph this site for about a year now. I’ve never been under an overpass this… well, beautiful. How many people travel by, either on top or underneath and never take in it’s aesthetic? Nature and concrete. All it needs is some comfortable furniture, lighting, fabrics, and you would have the perfect outdoor living space, except for the freeway noise.

Lemon tree is blooming and the ants are busy. Wish I could share the intoxicating smell of these.

Backyard bougainvillea. Love these little blossoms. So modest compared to the rest of the bold color.

Thought it would be fun to do some photographic shadow studies around the old casa today. I’m always reminding myself… “Don’t forget the negative space.”
